Faculty One-Day Conference & Educators |
As you start the academic year, how can you make a greater impact on your students? How can you motivate them to WANT to learn? How can your class become the class they would never skip? In this session we will cover how to create a classroom atmosphere that will attract students no matter what your subject area is. You will learn the easiest ways to motivate students to learn, and to have them so enjoy and look forward to your class that they would not dream of missing it. You will be empowered in ways you never imagined to produce positive outcomes in all aspects of your teaching.

What you will learn:

The Do's and Don't for Teachers

The classroom can be a scary place. Ask any teacher, both the new and the experienced. Ask about the nightmares they have in August before school starts. Ask about the stomach pains on the first day. Ask about reactions to seeing their class roster.
Teaching is tough. But as everyone knows and quotes, it IS the most rewarding job on earth.
This book was born out of all the teacher frustration that Becky has seen in her 34 years of teaching. It does not matter what level you teach. Becky has had taught them all--from first grade to university. The principles you will learn expand through all ages and for all grades, and will alleviate much of the angst and perplexity felt by teachers universally.
You will find some things disturbing, some things enlightening, some things thought-provoking, but all entertaining and educational. Becky lets the students completely speak for themselves. And then she adds some bonus tips for the classroom that REALLY WORK to create an atmosphere in which students love to listen, laugh and learn.

"Let me tell you what I did: I asked the experts---the kids who have to sit in classes all day long. I posed the question, "What SHOULD and SHOULDN'T teachers do in the classroom?" I got so tired of hearing students complain of BORING classes, of rude teachers, and of stupid things done in the name of teaching. I knew I had to get them to write it all down: their thoughts, suggestions, experiences, and hurts. And their joys! I wanted it all. I also had them throw in a story that had impacted their lives that involved a teacher." ~ Becky
Anti-Bullying Program
Becky knows firsthand the devastating effects of bullying. Growing up in Central America and being very different from all of the rest of the children in school, she was subjected to both physical and emotional torment. She gives a gripping presentation on the signs, consequences and remedies for bullying. Thirty-five years of experience teaching high school has led her to some fascinating, ‘must-know’ facts to promote the value of all humans in every interpersonal situation in which they find themselves. Interspersed with video of gripping stories from the Dr. Phil show.
What Every Parent Ought to Know
More than once, while a student from her class was hunched over heaving with sobs and blurting out some heartbreaking story, Becky has thought to herself, “I would give anything for a camera right now, so parents could witness what I am seeing.” Based on true-life stories and experiences of being both a teacher and a mom and grandmother, Becky very openly, honestly and bluntly gives the help that parents have always craved: help that will ensure raising happy, positive, and productive children in a society that seems to operate contrary to a parent’s goals. She will give audience members a tip sheet that will give all parents the knowledge---and relief---that they need as they tackle parenting, the world’s toughest job.
